Being able to finance production through NFT sales coupled with an OTT distribution strategy enables our production company to create an unprecedented environment for collaboration and community. One of the really fun and interactive components of our self distribution plan is to host online pre release screenings and other live events connected to the series and NFT holders will have priority for the guest list.
Also, because the show is referencing motifs from sci-fi and horror and mythology, there’s a tie in with traditional trading card collections, the difference being that ours are digital and offer incredible utility beyond a traditional collectible item.
Though the liquidity of the NFT market has fallen significantly, there is still a lot of potential in the blockchain space. Attributes unique to our case use make this a highly diversified offering. It’s not only one of a kind collectible art, but a piece of history in regards to our production IP and groundbreaking operating model.
As an investment: the future resale value as a collectible as the show grows in popularity could be exponential. Each episode will have a limited supply of NFTs available and there is always the potential for participants/contestants on a specific show or for guest hosts and directors to drive up the value of an edition.
Utility and Participation: Access to the private Discord channel, which will feature advance previews, behind the scenes and other production excerpts are ONLY available to our NFT holders, which will also increase the value as the series becomes more widespread. OG status and future whitelists are explicitly and only available to those who secure NFTs.
As each episode is released, there will be an exclusive online advance screening event for our early stage NFT holders where you’ll be the very first to see the show in addition to giveaways from the production and other updates. Also, becoming an NFT stakeholder is the only way to invest into the company as we are not currently offering equity.
I originally got the idea shortly before I moved to New Orleans, which is of course a really inspiring place to develop something in this genre. I spent years working out concepts for the show in addition to a business plan. I also had access to a great location where I did test footage using remote cameras.
So far I have episodes in mind for the first two seasons. Everything is public domain, to avoid expensive licensing agreements. Eventually it could be really exciting to incorporate famous monsters like Freddy or Predator, but that’s further down the road for us. The ideas come from movies, literature and even video games. It’s referencing familiar enough material that the audience has an immediate connection to it, but then taking it to a totally unexpected place.
You can do incredible concepts and stunning production design, but so much of the show is how the contestants respond to the environment and the challenge. I learned this doing the test footage in New Orleans, really how individuated each persons reaction was to the game and how much it revealed about them. The human dynamic is the core of the series.
There are a lot of similarities to crowdfunding. Similarly it’s an opportunity to support a project you’re interested in and get that whole insider, OG cred. The audience and participants are helping to make the project possible and in exchange receive rewards. What I prefer with an NFT is you are getting what you pay for right upfront. On a regular crowdfunding campaign, you are waiting indefinitely for a physical item to be shipped to you and may not even ever get it. Also, our expanded case use and the utility of the NFT gives it really unique and ongoing value.
I am also hopeful within the NFT space that we can get more visibility for the series and our indie production/distribution model which is totally built around engament and highly interactive, so it’s a really natural fit in terms of building community.
Crowdfunding at this point is pretty played out, and until you’ve raised a minimum through friends and family, you’ll never achieve visibility on the platform you’re using. Social media doesn’t help, my own posts to my own followers on our pages reach only a handful people which forces you to have to advertise to your own fans to get any kind of traction. I’m feeling within the NFT market it’s more plausible to organically cultivate our backers and audience while we develop more content to offer the general public.
OTT just means “Over The Top” or to bypass traditional methods of distribution. I did app development for a few years and it was really empowering to have my content on the App Store. It occurred to me this could be a legit platform - direct to consumer - with no intermediary interference. Plus having our own app in the store puts our series in front of over a billion potential viewers across the globe. That’s really exciting.
If you look at the major streamers they are all essentially apps, with even smaller production and distribution companies starting to embrace this business model. Our strength is in the ecosystem we are creating over multiple platforms of engagement that generates enormous value for our users.
